Walking Grades
1. It is each individual person’s responsibility to ensure that they are fit and able for the walks undertaken. If in doubt they should contact a Committee member or guide for more information about the walk and discuss, in confidence, any potential problems.
2. Walk grades may be defined as follows:
[A+] Strenuous; for the fit, usually over hilly and rough ground. Height climbed over 2500 ft. Distance up to 12 miles.
[A] Moderate to strenuous; for the fit, usually over hilly and rough ground; Height climbed not more than 2500 ft. Distance up to 12 miles.
[B+] Moderate to strenuous; for the fit; usually over hilly and rough ground; Height climbed not more than 2000ft.
Distance not more than 12 miles, usually including several miles without trail.
[B] Moderate; for anyone of average fitness; usually over lower hills or undulating ground.
Height climbed not more than 1200 ft. Distance not more than 11 miles. Short sections with no trail.
[C+] Easy to moderate; for anyone of average fitness; usually over undulating ground; short section of uphill or rough ground.
Height climbed not more than 600 ft. Distance not more than 10 miles.
[C] Easy; mainly level ground; usually on paths, tracks or minor roads. Height climbed not more than 150 ft. Distance not more than 10 miles.
3. The term “map” means Ordnance Survey Landranger maps.
